We believe in the power of partnerships. Working together with other groups means we get more books out to those who want them.
The Collective Sharehouse
The Collective Sharehouse is a volunteer led organisation currently supporting around 150 households who live in the Micklegate Ward area of York. They provide a range of cupboard foods, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, toiletries and household cleaning products.
We provide books for their pop up bookcase available every week.
Helping Other People in Need Street Kitchen
Every Sunday HOPING provide a hot meal for anyone in need outside Kings Manor, York from 2.30pm. Twice a month we join them with our pop-up book case to offer books and chat to those around.
Books are a great conversation starter and sometimes a chat about a favourite book makes a huge difference to someones day.
Our approach
Partner-First
We want to work with others to get books out to those who need them. There are lots of organisations providing essential services which we can complement.
We never ask for books back
We want people to be able to take a book without it becoming an additional burden so we never ask for them to be returned. If they get wet, or damaged, or lost, it doesn’t matter.
No judgement
Reading is reading, so whether people want to read a magazine, a Harry Potter or a Jane Austin, we’ll try and find it.
